  • Colleague: Could you help me with this report? I need it by EOD (End of Day).
  • You: Honestly, I have a lot on my plate right now.
  • Colleague: It’s really urgent, it should only take 30 minutes.
  • You: In that case, I’ll need to re-prioritize. Can I put my current task on the back burner for a bit?

  • A lot on my plate: 指盘子里装满了菜,引申为“手头活儿太多”。比 “I’m busy” 更有画面感,也显得你是因为高产而忙碌。
  • EOD (End of Day): 指下班前。通常是下午 5:00 或 6:00。
  • Back burner: 源自厨房的后炉灶。放在后炉灶煮的东西不需要时刻盯着,指“暂时搁置、靠后处理”。
